How public NPPES data becomes a searchable directory

SimplyFind Dentists organizes FOIA-disclosable provider information made public through the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES). We present it to support a more understandable provider search.

Public source data

CMS publishes FOIA-disclosable NPPES provider data through the NPI Registry and downloadable data files. The NPI Registry is a public, query-only source that CMS states is updated daily; downloadable full-replacement and incremental files provide an additional public data source.

Read CMS data-dissemination information or visit the NPPES NPI Registry.

Refreshes and limitations

We refresh directory data on a recurring schedule, but public records may change between our refreshes. Source data are reported to NPPES by providers, authorized representatives, or organizations. An NPI alone does not prove current licensure, credentials, appointment availability, insurance acceptance, clinical quality, or that a provider is the right fit for a particular person.

We therefore present public directory information as a starting point. Users should verify important details directly with the practice, the relevant licensing board, and their health plan where relevant.

How to request a correction

If a directory page appears inaccurate, use our Corrections & updates process. Where a concern involves the underlying NPI record, providers should also correct that information through NPPES so the public source record can be updated.
